‘And we were enchanted’

This programme takes its title from a page of John Courtney’s well-thumbed diary, written in rapture after a concert. 

Courtney was a gentleman with a deep love of music, and his diary recounts his musical experiences in 18th-century Yorkshire and London. This programme explores the music of the concerts, balls and plays in Courtney’s world, including music by Corelli, Sammartini, Handel, and Bach.
