That’s how the work of composer Erland Cooper has been described. Throughout his career (which has included being a founding member of band The Magnetic North), he has been inspired by the themes of nature, landscape, place and time, with his music bridging the worlds of alternative, electronic and classical.
Our first collaboration with him is a concert of three parts, centred on the world-premiere performances of a brand-new piece he has developed in a series of unique workshops with us over the past year.
This new work will be framed by a set from Erland’s back catalogue, for which he will be joined by a small group of Scottish Ensemble musicians, and a set from Scottish Ensemble itself – featuring an exploration of music that inhabits similar soundworlds to Erland’s own, including minimalism and more, curated by our Artistic Director, Jonathan Morton.
A night of deep listening and aural exploration with one of Scotland’s most distinct musical voices.
“A beauty that’s its own justification” (Uncut)
“speaks to a universal emotional truth” (MOJO)
“Nature’s songwriter” (The Guardian)
Concert lasts 120 minutes with intervals.
