The brilliant young British viola player Timothy Ridout is taking the world by storm with his highly regarded recital and concerto performances around the globe.

A committed chamber musician he partners here with Federico Colli, a former winner of the Leeds Piano Competition. Schumann’s delightful Romances Op 94 are thought to have been written as a Christmas gift for his wife Clara. Brahms’s early cello sonata (presented here in its arrangement for viola) marks a turning point in his compositional career, the beginning of his path towards his mature status as the finest 19th century romantic composer of chamber music. In contrast, Shostakovich’s Sonata opus 147 was his final composition, his farewell to a life of great personal challenge redeemed by the highest level musical composition.
