Doric String Quartet

The Doric String Quartet is one of today’s foremost quartets, regularly appearing in many of the world’s most celebrated concert halls and festivals. 

With his revolutionary Op 20 set of 6 quartets Haydn achieved his absolute mastery of the genre and established the string quartet as a medium for profound musical expression. Inspired by Tolstoy’s novel of the same name, Janáček’s dramatic first string quartet pits violent motifs against more heartfelt lyricism. The Doric Quartet is in the process of recording all of Beethoven’s string quartets in preparation for his bicentenary in 2027. The ‘Harp’ quartet is both utterly charming in itself and the gateway to his great late quartets to come.
