At The Queen's Hall, we embrace diversity - we've championed musicians, artists and audiences from the global majority, LGBT+, and disabled communities and female musicians. We recognise that the music industry is predominantly made up of, and led by predominantly white males and are committed to making change.
Our work on this is at all levels, and we feel passionate that our trustee board should be truly representative of the people it serves.
We’re therefore encouraging applicants from all backgrounds and especially those from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Given the nature of our work, we are keen to add more voices with lived disability experience to our board too – helping us evolve our work with all disabilities in mind. We particularly welcome applications from women, people of colour, under 30s, people with lived experience of being an artist, audience member or of working in the music industry - we want our board to be more representative.
You don't need to have served on a board previously, and we welcome applications from all ages and backgrounds. It is not necessary to have previous board committee experience as training will be provided. Trustee positions would suit an individual taking their first steps to wider board-level and governance experience - especially those with relevant lived experience of live music, or the music industry.
We're looking for trustees with skills, expertise or experience (lived or otherwise) in the following areas:
The role is voluntary and involves providing strategic guidance, oversight, and independent advice without being involved in the daily management or operations of the business. You'll bring an unbiased, outside perspective to help shape strategy, help meet legal requirements and good practice. Trustee roles are for a three-year term, renewable at the board’s discretion up to a maximum of three terms.
The board meets four times each year in Edinburgh city centre, and meetings are approximately two/three hours. There are also occasional additional meetings, including board and staff away sessions, to allow time to discuss policy areas or programme direction.
Alongside the full board, we also have a number of specialist sub-committees which also meet four times a year. The current groups are Finance & Governance, Buildings, and Audience
& Development. Trustees are encouraged to join those which most fit with their knowledge and interests.
