Withered Hand plus special guests
25 August 2011 at 7:30pmat The Queen's Hall
Doors open 7.30pm \ 1st act onstage 8pm
Every year at the Festival, we get at least one breakthrough show at The Queen's Hall. In 2009, it was Frightened Rabbit. In 2010, it was The Burns Unit. The smart money says 2011 will belong to Dan Willson AKA Withered Hand.
Over three releases - Good News, You're Not Alone and Religious Songs - Withered Hand's intelligent and haunting folk-pop has drawn in fans like Jarvis Cocker, Julian Cope and Daniel Kitson. This year has seen already a triumphant appearance at Texas' SXSW music conference (plus a well-publicised struggle with USA immigration) and expectation is high for their next album. This is their largest hometown show to date and Dan will be curating the rest of this show's line-up. Expect some surprises and special guests along the way...
"Sometimes it takes one spellbinding live performance before an artist’s seemingly obvious-to-everyone-else talent really sinks in. I’ve always appreciated Dan Willson’s songcraft in a rather passive way, but I walked away from this Withered Hand solo show a fully subscribed fan - and I wasn’t the only one." (The Scotsman)
"beautifully constructed lyrical frameworks" (MOJO)
