WHAT'S ON / Ward Thomas plus support
Hampshire and Country music may not be obvious bed fellows but twin sisters Catherine and Lizzy Ward Thomas (who have been singing harmonies together since childhood) have had Country music in their blood ever since they were introduced to the sounds of Carrie Underwood, Dixie Chicks and Alison Krauss by a Canadian cousin in their early teens. One listen to the vocal cadences and close harmonies on their debut album From Where We Stand and Nashville and Hampshire suddenly don’t seem all that far apart. Their new album Cartwheels, featuring the single Carry You Home, is out now.
Cartwheels, written two years ago at a session in Nashville during the campaign for 2014's From Where We Stand, is the duo's unexpectedly successful debut album. The remainder of the new album, which shares a name with the track, was written and recorded in London, produced largely by Martin Terefe (KT Tunstall, Jason Mraz, Shawn Mendes), and partly by Jimmy Hogarth (Amy Winehouse, Paolo Nutini, Sia). Cartwheels wasn't just the first track in the bag, it inspired what was to follow.
