Embodying the Light

Internationally acclaimed saxophonist Tommy Smith pays tribute to his greatest inspiration, jazz icon John Coltrane with a new band of major creative talents.

A presence on the global jazz scene since his teenage years with Gary Burton’s Whiz Kids quintet, Smith has recorded for Blue Note and ECM Records and currently tours the world with Norwegian bass master Arild Andersen’s trio, one of the premier groups in jazz today.

Drummer Sebastiaan de Krom has provided the drumming powerhouse behind Herbie Hancock and Jamie Cullum and award-winning pianist Peter Johnstone and bassist Calum Gourlay have both worked with the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra and its array of world class guests.

Performing favourite Coltrane compositions including Naima and Dear Lord alongside Smith’s own homages to his hero, Embodying the Light promises exciting music full of spirit, passion, devotion, and emotion.
