at The Queen's Hall

Elgar: Serenade for Strings
Gregor Forbes: Tea Break (première)
Walton: Viola Concerto
Dvorak: Symphony No 7 in D minor, Op70

Conductor: Peter Evans; Viola: Jane Atkins

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra's much admired principal viola, Jane Atkins, has enjoyed a varied and distinguished performing career, since making her debut in Walton's beautiful but technically demanding concerto in 1989 with Kurt Sanderling and the LPO.

Now in its fourth year, the MCO annual Composers’ Competition has produced some fine new works. In 2009-2010, the winner was Gregor Forbes of Stewart’s Melville College, Edinburgh and his short work, Tea Break, will receive its premiere at this concert. Elgar’s Serenade for Strings and Dvorak’s turbulent 7th Symphony complete the programme.
