SCO: Child Prodigy - Mature Genius
4 March 2010 at 7:30pmat The Queen's Hall
Richard Egarr: conductor/piano
Mozart: Symphony No.1 in E flat major, K.16; Haydn: Piano Concerto in D; Beethoven: Overture, The Creatures of Prometheus, Op.43; Beethoven: Symphony No.8
The boy Mozart opens this programme with a piece written at the age of eight, while mature Beethoven closes it. Hearing their two symphonies together dramatically highlights how two generations of composers transformed the symphony – and the language of music itself – from the Age of Englightenment to the Age of Romanticism.
