The Queen’s Hall presents

Marcin Wasilewski Trio

10 June 2010 at 8:00pm
at The Queen's Hall

The ease and intuition of Marcin Wasilewski Trio, one of Europe’s finest jazz groups, is something at which to marvel.

These three exceptional young musicians honed their skills working with Poland's iconic trumpet star Tomasz Stańko. They have emerged as a potent force at the forefront of contemporary European jazz trios with a brace of critically acclaimed albums for the renowned ECM label. Stańko says: "In the entire history of Polish jazz we've never had a band like this one. They just keep getting better and better."

Marcin Wasilewski’s feathery touch on piano, combined with slow transitions and subtle interaction between players Michal Miskiewicz (percussion) and Slawomir Kurkiewicz (double bass), creates a bewitching sound – balanced, complex and delicate. Their eclectic repertoire includes music by Prince, Carla Bley, Björk, Gary Peacock, Tomasz Stańko and Ennio Morricone, plus original compositions by Wasilewski.

‘Their music converts rigid form into glorious freedom in the most sophisticated way.' (Evening Standard)
