Helena Buckmayer: Schumann Jubilee Concert
5 June 2010 at 7:45pmat The Queen's Hall
Orchestra of the Canongait; Conductor: Robert Dick; Pianist: Helena Buckmayer
Schumann: Manfred Ouverture; Piano Concerto in A minor; Symphony No.2
The Orchestra of the Canongait and its conductor, Robert Dick, join forces once again, with the acclaimed German pianist, Helena Buckmayer, in a special concert to mark the bicentenary of the birth of Robert Schumann, the most romantic of all composers.
Helena Buckmayer, whose playing has been described as "lyrical and poetic" and “having a rare sensitivity”, will perform Schumann's only piano concerto (in A minor).
The programme will include one of Schumann's finest orchestral creations: the Manfred Overture, written as incidental music for Lord Byron's Manfred, which effectively conveys the urgent despair of Byron's work. The concert will conclude with his uplifting Symphony No. 2 in C major with its dramatic, Bachian chorale prelude.
