What's On / Trilok Gurtu/Paolo Fresu/ Omar Sosa + Fraser Fifield & Graeme Stephen
at The Queen's Hall
Three of the most talented and adventurous live performers in world jazz unite for a very special trio project.
Hailed by many as the world's finest percussionist, Trilok Gurtu's totally individual technique combines the Indian tradition with many other styles to stunning effect.
Sardinian trumpeter Paolo Fresu has absorbed the influences of Miles Davis and Louis Armstrong into his own uniquely passionate voice. Pianist Omar Sosa fuses a wide range of jazz, world music and electronic elements with his native Afro-Cuban roots to create a completely fresh sound.
"Gurtu seduced the auditorium with awesome percussion magic and pure theatre" (The Herald on Trilok Gurtu)
"a gentle, lyrical player with the most gorgeous tone." (The Guardian on Paolo Fresu)
"atmospheric, joyously physical, profound and playful, and always utterly absorbing." (The Herald on Omar Sosa)
Fraser Fifield & Graeme Stephen make a truly original sound, rooted in the Scottish folk tradition but exploratory by nature. Guitarist Graeme Stephen, currently Scottish Jazz Award winner for Innovation, provides the perfect foil for Fraser Fifield's pipes, sax, whistles and electronics.
The J-Word is a new collaboration of leading venues committed to sharing the best live music in the world.
