EIF: Scottish Ensemble; Tenebrae
26 August 2009 at 11:00amThe Scottish Ensemble performs two acclaimed works written specially for the group. James MacMillan's cantata for choir and strings has become one of the composer's most loved works, for which the Ensemble is joined by chamber choir Tenebrae. The Petite Symphonie à Cordes is a realisation for string ensemble of Ravel's popular and colourful quartet re-worked by master-orchestrator Rudolf Barshai.
'probably MacMillan's masterpiece... astounding... an inexorable sense of the drama' (The Guardia)
Scottish Ensemble: 'vital, questing string outfit.' (The Independent)
Tenebrae: 'impeccable intonation and stylistic authority... one of the country's most outstanding vocal ensembles.' (Evening Standard)
