Beethoven: Piano Sonata in E flat Op 27 No 1
Ives: Piano Sonata No 2 ‘Concord’

Ives’s Concord Sonata is named after a New England town where a remarkable group of inventors, philosophers, poets and writers lived and worked in the middle of the 19th century.

In the Concord Sonata Beethoven’s influence on Ives is clear. Beethoven’s Sonata reflects his own personal turmoil in the early 1800s.

‘one of the truly great musicians of our time’ (The Times)

‘Technical brilliance was there in abundance ... more impressive still was the sheer range of expression and the individuality of the performance’ (The Herald)
