WHAT'S ON / Blue Rose Code plus special guests Zervas & Pepper
With three stellar albums in four years, featuring the likes of Danny Thompson, Karine Polwart, Nashville's McCrary Sisters and even Hollywood A-Lister, Ewan McGregor, Edina's own Ross Wilson's rise has been nothing short of breakneck and breathtaking.
Four sell-out shows at the Fringe, a sell-out/standing ovation at this year's Celtic Connections and a nomination for Scottish Album Of The Year, The Herald proclaimed "Blue Rose Code has real star quality".
An independent artist, Wilson's untrammelled success has been achieved the old-fashioned way, through a connection with his audience, a jazz-like approach to performance borne of spontaneity and the love of songwriting. A celebration of song and a homecoming of sorts for the exiled Wilson, joined by his multi-talented band, drawn from the best and brightest in Scotland's jazz and folk scenes. Also featuring good friends and BBC Radio 6 favourites, Zervas & Pepper opening the show and, no doubt, joining Ross on stage for the main event.
Of Blue Rose Code, London's time out said, "Imagine John Martyn meeting a young Van Morrison and being shipwrecked with a bunch of Chet Baker records." Wilson's soundscapes have also drawn comparisons to Paul Buchanan and The Blue Nile.
Ross Ainslie, Jarlath Henderson and the Edinburgh Contemporary Choir will also be appearing this evening.
To describe the gig as 'unmissable' runs the risk of cliche but, in truth, there's no better way to describe it. Get your tickets early.
