Birtwistle – Pulse Shadows: Hebrides Ensemble
9 March 2011 at 7:45pmat The Queen's Hall
ecat and Hebrides Ensemble join forces to bring you one of the finest chamber works of the late 20th Century – Harrison Birtwistle’s Pulse Shadows.
Join us for the Scottish premiere of this work of ingenuity and magic, described as one of his finest achievements and a piece of ‘extraordinary weight and emotional complexity’ (The Guardian).
Drawing inspiration from the poetry of Paul Celan and the Freizes and Fantasias of Purcell, Pulse Shadows interleaves movements for string quartet with works for ensemble and soprano.
We are delighted to be joined by the distinguished American soprano, Claron McFadden, who has performed Pulse Shadows many times throughout Europe with absolute authority and depth of emotion.
‘Pulse Shadows is a consummation of Birtwistle’s art’ (Sunday Times)
