Bert Inspired – A Tribute to Bert Jansch

21 August 2017 at 8:00pm

Special guest compere Ian Rankin

Since bursting onto the early 1960s music scene at Edinburgh's legendary Howff club, Bert Jansch's unique style of folk, blues and jazz has inspired generations of genre-defining musicians including Neil Young, Jimmy Page and Johnny Marr.
Tonight his musical colleagues including Jacqui McShee of Pentangle, Steve Tilston and Bernard Butler, come together with fans Ben Watt, Karine Polwart and Alasdair Roberts, and not least Bert's original guitar teacher, Archie Fisher, to perform music that shaped Bert and songs he gifted us during a 5-decade career.
This concert is in support of the Bert Jansch Foundation and marks the publication of Bert Transcribed: the Bert Jansch song-book by Music Sales, featuring 24 new transcriptions of Bert’s songs and notes on his innovative techniques.
“The ambiguity in the simple two-word title for these concerts staged by the Bert Jansch Foundation is entirely deliberate. Of course the artists who make up the varied bill acknowledge the influence of Jansch on their own music, but equally they explore the music that he drew upon.” (The Herald)
