Simon Thacker's Svara-Kanti
20 October 2011 at 8:00pmat The Queen's Hall
Svara-Kanti is the latest Indian/Western supergroup from visionary guitar virtuoso Simon Thacker, which builds upon the achievements of his Nava Rasa Ensemble, which appeared to great acclaim at The Queen's Hall in 2009. Four masters of Indian and Western music and India's greatest composer, Shirish Korde, come together to present dazzling Indian classical traditions, the best Bollywood film songs (including by Slumdog Millionaire Oscar winner AR Rahman) and evocative folk music, all reinterpreted with Western classical and jazz influences to create powerful and inspiring new sounds.
Svara-Kanti features award winning guitarist Simon Thacker, the beautiful voice of singer/actress Japjit Kaur, tabla maestro Sarvar Sabri, who has a musical lineage stretching back ten generations to the Royal Court of the Mughal Emperor Akbar and Carnatic violinist Jyotsna Srikanth, who has recorded almost 200 Bollywood film soundtracks and is also a London Trinity College of Music Fellow.
