The Culloden Moor Suite / The Green Thorn Tree with special guest saxophonist Bobby Wellins
Bobby Wellins’ Culloden Moor Suite is a sleeping giant of jazz and chamber music. An eloquent lament for the fallen in battle and a beautiful, soulful celebration of one of Scotland’s most haunting historical locations, it is a rarely visited masterpiece long deserving of a wider audience.
Drawing again on great Scottish historical events and literature, Wellins' second extended composition, the Caledonian Suite, was inspired by the books of James Barke about Robert Burns, and richly evokes the sounds of Scotland’s landscape and life.
Now, 30 years later, his compositions have been fully rearranged and orchestrated for the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra and with Bobby Wellins himself as guest saxophonist. These performances of his Culloden Moor and Caledonian Suites promise atmosphere, drama, spontaneous creativity and spiritually uplifting music.
