Phil Cunningham & Aly Bain: The Silver Anniversary Tour

2011 sees Aly and Phil celebrate 25 years of touring. It seems like a moment ago that Phil and Aly embarked on their first small 'experimental' tour as duo, of 8 venues. The rest is history as the saying goes! For years they have been touring Scotland for the months of August and September. Described by Mike Russell as 'Probably the finest traditional musicians you are ever likely to hear" they look forward more than ever in this year to their home-town show at The Queen's Hall.
Widely regarded as one of the most exciting and innovative accordion players of the times, Phil Cunningham has taken this instrument from strength to strength, setting the standards by which many young players fix their sights today.
Aly Bain is Scotland's supreme traditional style fiddler. His playing is unique - driving, impassioned and pure - with an unmistakable tone that has earned him a following of ardent fans throughout the world.
They have toured together since 1988, have recorded five albums and won the Best Duo Award in the 2005 BBC Folk Awards. Their performances are a mix of high energy, technical instrumental wizardry and hilarious between-set humour. Their bond is unique, each effortlessly working off the other whether playing fiery traditional reels or self-written slow airs.
