The Edinburgh Highland Reel & Strathspey Society is pleased to return to The Queen's Hall to present a varied programme of traditional Scottish fiddle music.

The evening will feature the orchestra, under the baton of well-known Scottish fiddle player Yla Steven BEM, playing marches, strathspeys, reels, jigs and hauntingly beautiful slow airs.

In addition, EHRSS welcome back the renowned Scottish mezzo-soprano Colette Ruddy who has delighted audiences the length and breadth of the country with her glorious singing of Scottish songs. Their Piper will start the evening off in the traditional manner, and the host for the evening will be Dennis Haggerty, a well-known Scottish tenor who is now, also, a popular compere around the country.

Founded in 1881, the Society was the first of its type, set up to preserve the traditional styles of fiddle playing. Its members are proud to continue that tradition in the 21st century. In 2016 EHRSS appeared on BBC1's "The One Show" as part of a feature on Mendelssohn's travels in Scotland. The same year saw their debut performance with the Stirling Bridge International Arts Festival, which was repeated again in 2018. Concerts in Forfar and Haddington also featured in 2018 along with conferences and community events as well as their Annual Concert here in The Queen's Hall.

This event has finished, but you can read more about folk music at The Queen's Hall and across Edinburgh here and find out about upcoming folk shows at The Queen’s Hall here.
