News / John Shuttleworth - The Minor Tour

Dressed in his trademark outfit of red turtleneck jumper, thick rimmed glasses and 70s style brown leather jacket, John Shuttleworths appearance reflects the humdrum world which inspires much of his genius comedy.

Armed with his trusty Yamaha keyboard, the Sheffield-based comedian bashes out songs about everything from cups of tea, DIY and confectionary, to anyone who is willing to listen.

Shuttleworth is like a cross between Tommy Cooper and Harry Hill, with all the shambolic timing of those two comedians. Yet, like Tommy and Harry, John's skilful stage technique is faultless.

His latest show, the Minor Tour (and Other Mythological Creatures), packs in all the Shuttleworth classics such as Life is Like a Salad Bar (You Only Get One Visit), Two Margarines On The Go (It's a Nightmare Scenario) or I Can't Go Back to Savoury Now.

This latter was inspired after his wife offered him her leftovers, after he had started on his dessert. ("The shepherd's pie was stunning / But I'm halfway through my puddin' / My tastebuds would go crazy / And I can't go back to savoury now.")

It's all low-key, down at heel and quirky. In true Northern fashion, Shuttleworths disillusions with Southerners are explored with a sneak preview of his new film “Southern Softies” which attempts to prove that people are softer the further you move down South – an apt sequel to “It's Nice Up North”, in which Shuttleworth investigated the theory that people are nicer the further north you travel. (ed. that’s obviously true..)

Prepare yourself for a dose of loveable Shuttleworth eccentricity by visiting his official interweb drop in centre. Tickets for The Queen’s Hall visit of The Minor Tour are available now online.
