News / Guide to Hogmanay

To ring in 2009 and celebrate one of Scotland’s best loved customs, The Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh is hosting a truly traditional Scottish Hogmanay party for over 350 people.

In keeping with the true spirit of Hogmanay but without the pushing and shoving on Princes Street, there’ll be a traditional céilidh led by HLI, Scotland’s premier céilidh band, champagne on arrival and a wee dram of whisky at midnight. To make things extra special, there’ll also be a Highland piper to pipe in 2009 with style. A snack portion of haggis, neeps and tatties will also be served to keep revellers going all night into the wee small hours.

But what’s Hogmanay all about anyway?

Being the curious folks we are, we decided to investigate the history of Hogmanay, and also came up with some top tips to help you make the most out of a good ol’ céilidh knees-up.

It’s all here in this lovely pdf...
