The Cemetery Club by Ivan Menchell
14 May 2010 at 7:30pmat Churchill Theatre
An appealingly bittersweet and moving comedy – it is a story of three Jewish widows in Forest Hill, Queens, New York, USA.
They are the surviving half of three sets of long-time friends, each of whom is in a different stage of healing and moving on with her life. Once a month, the three women – Doris, Ida and Lucille – meet to pay their respects to their husbands who are all buried in the same cemetery.
The subject matter may be powerful, but Ivan Menchell’s style is light-hearted, witty and amusing. With some sparkling Jewish humour added to heartbreak and finely portrayed characters, this award-winning play will appeal to all who enjoy the bet of live theatre.
