Orpheus’ Noble Strings

Sofie Vanden Eynde: lute, orpharion, bandora; Romina Lischka: viola da gamba and lyra viol; Thomas Hobbs: tenor

Orpheus and his lyre: how better to picture the power of music? Orpheus could move stones to tears; he even moved to pity the gates of death. Music overturns the world, this the composers of the English Renaissance knew very well. The acclaimed lyrical tenor Thomas Hobbs celebrates the many facets of music in lutesongs by Campion and Danyel, among others.

“Thomas Hobbs sang with fervour and a beautiful tone” (Classical Source)

“Even more impressive, however, is the interaction between the two performers, who seem almost to breathe as one” (BBC Music Magazine on S. Vanden Eynde and R. Lischka)
