Soirée chez les Esterhazy
The Orpheon Consort’s Baryton Trio from Vienna presents a programme of delightful trios and divertimenti by Joseph Haydn, Andreas Lidl and others for baryton, viola da gamba, viola and ‘cello using instruments from the Vásquez collection. They recreate an evening such as would have been enjoyed by the court of the Prince and Princess of Esterhazy in the late eighteenth century with Prince Nicholas playing the baryton, Haydn playing the viola and a cellist from the orchestra.
At the end of a concert of Haydn Divertimenti Vásquez said, "Fortunately, Haydn wrote 126 divertimenti." An audience member responded "And we wish to hear each and every one of them!"
Please note: This concert takes place at St Cecilia’s Hall, Niddry Street, Edin EH1 1LG
