6 May 2011 at 7:30pmat Pleasance Theatre
In January Laura played three sold out shows at Celtic Connections in Glasgow and in London. She comes to Edinburgh on May 6 with her new CD which pays tribute to the importance and influence of trailblazing country superstar Kitty Wells on ‘Kitty Wells Dresses: Songs of the Queen of Country Music’.
Nashville-born, New York-based singer and songwriter Laura Cantrell has often celebrated the women of Country Music, both on her own acclaimed albums and her long-running "Radio Thrift Shop" radio show on WFMU. In 2009 she was invited by the Country Music Hall of Fame to present a musical program for their Kitty Wells: Queen of Country Music exhibit, the first ever dedicated exhibit for a female Hall of Fame member. This concert inspired her song "Kitty Wells Dresses," and a new album-length set of recordings that celebrate the sound and songs of Wells, whose trailblazing commercial and artistic achievements made her Country Music’s first female superstar.
