Along the Miners' Rows

An evocative commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Auchengeich Mining Disaster

On the 18th September 1959, smoke and fumes from an underground fire at Auchengeich Colliery in the North Lanarkshire mining community of Bridgend killed 47 miners in the worst Scottish mining accident in the 20th century. Combining influences from folk and blues, this poignant performance of original song and dialogue not only commemorates the disaster, but also recalls a way of life and a community spirit that today has all but gone.
